The work stems from feelings of claustrophobia within one's own skin adjacent to nightmares, sleep paralysis, and dissociation. Through the intentions of the lighting, captured movement, as well as costume design, a consciousness of internal displacement while carrying on through life is explored. Showcasing to viewers a complex emotion beyond written words, with hopes of leaving the unsettling intensity vague enough to provide viewers room to decipher their own interpretations and connections.
There were three main inspirations behind the visual work: Oscar Wilde's Uncensored Tale of Dorian Grey, the COMMES des GARÇONS Fall 2010 collection, and Copenhagen-based artist and designer Tanne Vinter's works had a heavy influence over the costume.
"It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors.".
